IPMA-Canada Professional Development Survey National Summary Report - Conducted April 2011

Some highlights include:

  • Professional development is still being offered to public sector staff across the country but the scope of PD has changed. There no longer appears to be a focus on continuous learning in most public sector organizations.
  • Employees are no longer aware of the funds or time made available to them for professional development.
  • The private sector responses we received indicated that professional development is still a key element of business success and professional development is encouraged and celebrated for both present and future jobs.
  • Almost one third of HR professionals indicated that they need more training for their present jobs and the largest inhibitor is the lack of HR budgets.

  • The HR Community is facing growing retirements and generational turnover, with reduced
    resources.
